Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

And Canne,
Regarding your comment about the workflow: Sat2Chart does exactly what you do if you do it manually. It downloads the same tiles if you use a polygon or path.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

canne,

Actually I tested this creating a chart using Sat2Chart with a polygon the same size as the polygon created by SasPlanet with a Polygon Selection and Sat2Chart does download more tiles. Its because Sat2Chart expands the polygon to be sure all the area is covered.

In the next version of Sat2Chart you will be able to input the polygon file created by SasPlanet (the .hlg file) so it will download exactly the same number of tiles

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Thanks Paul,
That's great news! The polygon file import function would certainly help my workflow since I have all the polygons ready: I could just use Sat2Chart to automate the repetitive tasks in SASPlanet to extract maybe 20 - 30 small mbtiles-sat-files I was planning to make. I'm looking forward to the next version which will make the tile download waiting part shorter.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

New Version Sat2Chart.V4.0.2.0
Fixes:
- using low zoom when creating mbtiles with multiple zooms, now uses High zoom.
- Out of resources if large mbtiles and many zooms levels

New: Now supports an .hlg file as a ploygon.

You can download it here:

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi,
I tested with the same cove and its polygon: it took only 68 seconds to create the below mbtiles-chart from an exported polygon and z16-18 selection file in .hlg format. Great tool which automates my SAS.Planet workflow, thanks!
Best regards,
Canne

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I have created a small utility to view the zoom levels within a mbtiles file. It will invoke the image editor for each zoom level so you can see what the image looks like at that zoom level. Its interesting to see exactly what images SasPlanet creates at each level when you specify multiple zoom levels.

If you want to try it, download it from the following link and put it in the same directory as Sat2Chart. Invoke it by opening it with a double click in a File Explorer.

If you have troubles with it send the Mbtiles_Viewer_Chart.log
If you have suggestions to improve it let me know.

Here is the link:

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I left something in that was used in debugging and it causes Sat2Chart to timeout creating a chart from the real Google Earth . Gets:
Error: Unable to detect the Google earth Status Bar

To fix it download the Sas2Chart.rex from the following link and replace the one in the SAT2CHART.V4.0.2.0 directory.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul!

I've been perusing this thread, and I'm impressed with your level of dedication to supporting users of Sat2Chart. Thank you very much!

I am a crewmember on a family's Outremer 51, and I'm trying to setup up a satellite navigation system using a combination of GPS receiver, Google Earth, Open CPN, Sat2Chart, and SAS.Planet.

I installed the latest versions of Sat2Chart and ooRexx from your website (Sat2Chart.V4.0.2.0, ooRexx.5.0.0.11579-x86_32), and I'm attempting to make my first chart from Google Earth. I've adjusted all of my settings in Google Earth Pro (version 7.3.2.5776 (64-bit)) to those recommended in your tutorial (C:/SAT2CHART/SAT2CHART.V4.0.2.0/Help/English/GoogleEarth.html#configuring). I've unchecked "Create chart from overlay. Do not use Google Earth."

I'm getting this error when I uncheck that option:
PGMNAME Fatal error! Press OK to terminate
ERROR: SYNTAX occurred at line:17026
Content of line:
comm._GE_Version =
comm._geobj~VersionMajor'.'comm._geobj~VersionMino r'.'||,
ERRORTEXT:Object method not found.

I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious, but I've searched this thread and haven't found a similar issue. Google Earth does not automatically open when I open Sat2Chart. I open Google Earth myself and zoom to an area where I want to create a chart.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue? Should I try using SAS.Planet instead? I'm just trying to get satellite images of parts of the South Pacific (Tuamotu atolls, etc.), so that we can use them as supplementary navigational aids where charts are not as accurate. Thanks so much!

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I had the same issue with the latest google earth. You need to download the older version that Paul keeps on his site. I think it’s in the helpfile or read me.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Yes its in the Help, Here is what it says, follow it exactly especially the restart of window or it will not work:

Google Earth
Sat2Chart supports Google Earth or Google Earth Pro from V5.1 BUT versions higher than V7.1.2 no longer have the application programming interface (API) required to run Sat2Chart.
If you have installed GE Pro V7.1.4 or higher to fix it:
Uninstall the newer version and install an older version that still has the API by doing the following:.
Uninstall all existing versions of Google Earth and Google Earth Pro using the Contol Panel...Programs and Features.
Restart Windows This is Very Important!
Download and install Google Earth Version 7.1.2 from my website by clicking on this link:
http://gdayii.ca/Downloads/googleear...1.2.2041.1.exe

Let the install launch Google earth then terminate it.
Start Sat2Chart and it will start the old version of Google Earth.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

New version of Sat2Chart with some special enhancements for users creating charts from Sasplanet from Paths/Polygons and tiling:
- Support for Sasplanet's multiple download splits so the download time is decreased substantially.
- Multi-Map creation. For each path/polygon/tile you can create charts from multiple maps at the same time.

Many thanks to my two testers Terry and Jon. Both of whom are creating and sharing charts for many parts of Asia.

The new Sat2Chart.V5.0.0.0 can be download from this link:

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Sat2Chart.V6.0.0.0 fixes a few intermittent problems and also makes it easier to create mbtiles charts. Now you specify that you want mbtiles in one place by a new check box on the main panel called "Mbtiles". See the attachment. If you check it you will make mbtiles charts and not have to add .mbtiles to the chart name when creating single charts for Sasplanet or Google Earth (the real one) or specify it when creating charts from paths/polygons and tiling.
Download it from here:

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

This seems to have got a lot more complicated...
I previously created kap files that worked nicely in OpenCPN. I think I was using Sat2chart v2 or 3.
Now, I have upgraded to v6, and the meagre grasp of the process that I did have, is no longer enough...
Advanced functions, overlays, transparency, bypassing GE, etc. It's all a bit much for my little brain.
I have tried to follow the very good instructions, but even they left me behind. A lot of stuff appears to be happening, with screens opening, closing and switching

Please advise which options I need to select or deselect in order to create best resolution sat pictures, without overlays or added features? If I want to know depths, nav info etc, while looking at the sat photo, I can use the excellent split screen option in OpenCPN

Thank you!
Tim

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Karanga,

What do you want to do, create a kap or an mbtiles chart and from SasPlanet or Google Earth? The instructions in the information box tell you what to do depending on what you have checked or selected in the other fields.
