Really strange because it works fine on my Vista and XP computers. What I find interesting is the time that takes to find the Google Earth window, ie: 16 seconds. Did you have Google Earth started when you did the test? Also, if you go to the Google Earth window and enter Ctrl+Alt+s, does the Save As window come up?

If you don't mind I'll send you another copy of GE2KAP via email with much more diagnostic information so I can try to figure out the problem.

Does the new version work for anyone else?

I've wrote a new version that I will release shortly that supports overlaying an image by overlaying it directly in GE at the correct position. This allows you to manually correct it on GE before you create the KAP file.

new beta with DLL works ok.
New save file dialog box is both functioning and logical
Time to bring up save as in GE During the create KAP process) is about 2 seconds. It does leave you with a GE screen so I have to move to GE2Kap by using ALT Tab in windows

I start GE2KAP, open GE, select the area, enter the file path and name, the save window pops up immediately with a blank line, then after 15 seconds or so I get this error message

Did you have Google Earth started when you did the test?

rule out the non-ascii 'ç' (c cedilla) in the path name as the root of the problem. Putting it elsewhere with a 'decent' all-ascii pathname won't help.
There is an empty 'chart_name'.bmp in the KAP folder. The GE Save as Window would output a .jpg file. Is that correct ?

Well I can see what sailoT54's problem is: I'm looking for a "Save As" window but yours is the French translation "Enregister Sous" so it never finds it. Have to think about that.

OK I have loaded the new version at: www.gdayii.ca/Downloads

This one uses the new technique to overlay both charts and image files. It does it on GE before you create the KAP file so you can visually adjust the image with GE it if it not quite right.

Please read the GE2KAP_README to see how to overlay an image.

Hopefully it corrects the language problem too.

One last issue with that f... frog Vista
My GE2KAP folder is now translated as GEéKap, which causes an error...

Added: '2' on French keyboard (top row (not counting the F.. row) third key from left) is CAP-é..., not so on German, English..ones

in basic mode (no time to test overlay yet) renaming my folder GEKAP and hitting the 'save' button on the 'Save as' window.
I don't quite understand why I have to hit the 'save' button, though
I'm not concerned with the .jpg file as I want a .kap file which I have already labelled... I am missing something ?

Overlay from OpenCPN works a treat But get error when trying to create the kap file I have turned up diagnostics in the options file and her is the report

I note you have a transparancy option the the option file Can we at some stage use a gif file as the overlay as its easy to manually set the transparency color and GE accepts this type as an overlay with transparency preserved.

As postive point your beta accepts the gpx file and converts it to coodinates in GE and accurately overlays the image

OK I believe the new upload fixes both these problems.

You should not have to press enter on Save As. What I'm doing is telling GE to save the image so I can process it.

You shoiuld be OK with the French names. It finds it another way.

Yes I have the field for the transparancy but its hidden until I can figure it out. I know you guys some how did that ?? I'll try the GIF file.

Please give the new version a whirl, we'll get it yet.

new beta works fine both to produce kap from GE and when overlay image is selected and combind kap is produced.

we generated a transparent gif by using photopaint or snagit to select a color as transparant. As GE will happily overlay a gif image the we need to be able to select a gif file as the image file to overlay and then produce the combined kap chart as before.
