It may fix your problem sailorf54. The language issue is difficult.

here is an idea

Create a route in openCPN output to gpx input to program Program follows route creates GE based kap charts of the route at selected zoom levels. Should work for all areas except France (Joke)

One problem I've discovered is that after Google Earth loads the image, it will override the location positions that I entered. I'm working on a solution for it and few other enhancements.

sailorF54,
Could you do me a favor please. While in Google Earth press Ctrl+Shift+O and tell me if the "Google Earth - New Image Overlay" (or whatever the equiavlant French name) comes up.

Also all , I'm having difficulty making the land areas transparent using the Imagemagick convert command. Has anyone figured out how to do it?

Thanks,

Thanks,
As far I've been able to ascertain, no Ctrl(+ Shift)+letter is enabled in my French version. Could'nt find anything it about in the option settings
On top of that, The Ctrl+Shift?+O seems dedicated to both Files/Open and Add /Image Overlay...

The Crtl+Alt+...do work, though...

May I suggest you forget about the non-English versions for the time being, get the transparent overlay ready, and come back to these later...
(Your latest GE2KAP reverted the previous one wrt the keyboard mapping)

Evidenttly there is bad version of Google Earth out there that dosn't support Ctrl+Shift+O. If pressing those keys does not bring up the overlay image screen, you should uninstall (just upating won't work) Google Earth and reinstall the latest version.

I have loaded V3.0.8 of GE2KAP that now does the overlay of an image or KAP onto GE and should support non English versions of Google Earth (that have the Ctrl+Shift+O working properly).

In this version you can also create a KAP by putting the coordinates in a TXT file with the same filename as the image, ie: if the image is xx.jpg put the coordinates in xx.txt. The format of the coordinates should be:

North=58.21300127179715
South=58.185863452519925
West=8.286523818969727
East=8.355188369750977

You can also create the KAP directly from the image without overlaying on GE (check "Do not overlay on Google Earth").

Sorry no transparency yet.

Please try it out at: www.gdayii.ca/Downloads its still called GE2KAP_V2_BETA and give me feedback please.

Scrapped old one, cleaned registers, downloaded newest version.
Checked the multi-language help on keyboard shortcuts
Contrary to what is mentioned there,
Cntr+Shift-o Image overlay is not operative, along with several others

So I guess it's over and out for French users

Thanks

I had some timing issues with V3.0.9, those windows can be very tricky.

Please try V3.1.0 www.gdayII.ca/Downloads GE2KAP_V2_BETA

Also, I had one user who had the old French version that didn't support Ctrl+Shift+O and he uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now it does.

Can someone walk me through the process of doing an image overlay in google earth. The lat and lon seem to be in a different format between open cpn and GE. When I try to enter the lat and lon in GE it seems to stretch my gif all out of wack.

Why no GPX

Dear Paul

Thanks for all your hard work But I think the move from a gpx ref file to a txt file is a backward step. OpenCPN does not display positions in the decimal degrees format so it is very difficult to create the needed txt ref file. When you output way points from OpenCPN to a gpx file the positions are automatically converted to the decimal degrees format. All Nav programs i know about will output in gpx (not SeaClear) Is it possible to have both methods. When I create waypoints in OpenCPN i save them as meaningful named gpx files so they are not lost if i need to delete waypoints before I create top and botton corner waypoints to georeference the captured image.

Richard

Transparency

Dear Paul

Here is the code to create a transparent color in imagemagick

C:\>convert test.gif -transparent "#B5B5A5" test7.gif

The #color number was from Photoshop of the land area in Cmap93

This is for a gif screen capture I think you can do the same for capture in PNG

I will test png's and get back to you

regards

Richard
