Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul..

Something seems wrong with this new ver 3.4.3
Selecting the overlay bitmap and .gpx header and selected 'Overlay',GE now goes on to display the overlay map rather than the GE map? I tried this several times.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Tore,

Nothing changed in that code between 341 and 343. Did you try 341?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul..

V3.4.1 worked normally...finding the GE map from the supplied geo refs.
V3.4.3 displays the overlay map in GE instead of the GE map.... strange..

Tore,

BOTH 341 and 343 will bring up the overlay image and allow you to position it and set the transparancy. Nothing has changed.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul..

My #288 attachments speak for themselves.. Nomally, first the GE map fills the screen, then comes the overlay on top ready for adjustments.

In this version, the OVERLAY comes up both as a GE map, as WELL AS an overlay map.

I notice in GE it is possible to go to FILE and load up any bitmap file which is shown as an overlay type file sittinng on top of the undefined globe.

Never mind,I'll just go back to V3.4.1

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul..

Wait a minute.. earlier you mentioned that V3.4.0 was made especially for me to automatically upload the required GE map based on the geo locs supplied with the overlay file. Perhaps this function is NOT included in V3.4.3? In which case I return to V3.4.1

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul..

Now I am totally confused... I've been testing V3.4.0 -V3.4.1 and V3.4.3 and they now ALL behave the same. None of them bring up the required GE area automatically any more but instead bring up the overlay map. Something very odd here..

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Tore,

Are you sure that before you run GE2KAP that there isn't an overlay image already over it? Go into the sidebar and either delete all the images or uncheck them.

As I said 341 and 343 work the same. They bring up the overlay image but if you make it more transparent you will see that it did in fact go to the correct area on GE. Anyway is the KAP file that is produced incorrect?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul..

Everything works fine in V3.4.3, EXCEPT that the required GE area has to be input manually. Earlier, the input geo locs of the overlay took you to the exact GE area AUTOMATICALLY.

Even if there was a previous overlay stored in GE,surely each new run should override the previous settings? Otherwise you could not change the overlay prior to upload.
I never encountered this before. (with or without the vino blanco)

Tore

NOTE..

I just found out...you MUST make sure there are no OLD overlays already active in the GE panel. That was the whole couse of the problem. As long as there is an active, ticked overlay, the same overlay will be used over and over again, regardless of what you might input in GE2KAP. Would it be possible for GE2KAP to ask for permission to delete the old overlay still in the GE panel?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul..

I've noticed it's not the GE2KAP sessions which sets the GE sidebar Places tab,but guess I've unknowingly checked it on some occation and forgotten to release it.

Still learning GE's cause and effect!!

Believe you hoist anchor tomorrow heading for Florida. Fair winds and thank you..

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul;

Thank you for your help. I tried the samal.kap that you sent with a similar results to the old one; OpenCPN v2.3.1 does nor display it even tho it is the only chart in my active directory, and Coastal Explorer has it in the middle of a wooded slope.

I'll start from the beggining and report back in a day or so.

Cheers, Jim

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul;

I'm making some progress using V3.4.3. I tried using a different location and got a reasonable result but it is very odd that OpenCPN still won't reconize the created KAP file but Coastal Explorer will (although C.E. reports there are errors in the KAP file. I'm getting another computer and will try creating another KAp file with an overlay when I get it set up.

Thanks, Jim

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I've used V3.4.3 on Windows 7 and have had no problems at all. The kap's are generated quickly and easily and are visible in OpenCPN ver 2.4.0 as CM93 overlays, just as intended. And the registration looks to be very accurate.

Thanks Paul - a great add-on to the OpenCPN package!

Oh and tho' I haven't tried it on-board yet I guess the kap's will work just as well with Seaclear.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Thanks for the feedback hoolie. Yes the cahrts work on SeaClear. I use it as well as OpenCPN.

jimthom, don't know why the chart doesn't work for you on OpenCPN. Works fine on my version.

Well I'm in West Palm Beach Florida waiting to fly back to Canada. Stored the boat for the summer on the Okeechobee waterway.

I will be uploading one more beta version that fixes the problem some users have when GE is not running when you start GE2KAP. After that I plan to replace version 2 of GE2KAP with this beta version. Will upload it when I hget to Canada.

Cheers

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I just uploaded GE2KAP.V3.4.4 get it at:

www.gdayii.ca/Downloads GE2KAP_V2_BETA.ZIP

The only thing added in this release is a check to be sure the GE window exists before I access it. Should prevent the problem some had if GE was not up when GE2KAP was started.
