Hi Phiggins

Well, you may remember that the first version of GE2KAP were not really geared towards GE in French dress...
So I gave you a break.

I've described setting up and running GE2KAP together wirh Pavel's GE pluging on a French forum.
The following error has been reported by one participant

---
ERROR: SYNTAX occurred at line:480 Content of line: geobj = .OleObject~New('GoogleEarth.ApplicationGE',"WITHEV ENTS",1) ERRORTEXT:OLE error
----

Any pointer ?

TIA

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

SailorF54,

Can you describe what circumstances this error occurred. Was GE running already or OpenCPN with the GE plugin running? Also the GE2KAP.log would be nice.

On another note: a lot of users have felt that doing the overlay without using GE, like it was in version 2 was better. The only reason I moved to using GE was that it allowed you to move the overlay around and set the transparancy. Writing such complicated code in rexx would be very difficult. If I could find a program that I could call that is written in C++ perhaps using wxwidgets that would allow me to pass the the GE image and the overlay image and allow the user to manipulate the two would be nice to have. I've looked at the wxwidgets examples and googled for such a program without luck. Does anyone know of such a program (not a commercial one) or be willing to write it?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

There was one feature of the GE plugin that Pavel did for me that I forgot to active the code for in GE2KAP V4.1.1. The feature is:

If you turn off the GE plugin, by clicking the icon, GE2KAP will be able to find the real Google Earth window and use it normally including tbeing able to overlay an image or chart. When you do this. Google Earth will still be positioned where it was when the plugin was active.

Just uploaded GE2KAP.V4.1.2 which supports this feature to:

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

That error is when they haven't installed ImageMagick properly. Tell them to reinstall it.

SailorF54,

I see where the problem is: The id of the windows in the GE plugin are changing.

I am working on a solution.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

JohnB,

I assume the error you are referring to is the Syntax error at line 415, correct?

If so do the following:

1. Open a CMD window and cd to the diirectory where you have GE2KAP. Then issue: dir convert.exe
Do you have the convert.exe? If not put it here.

2. If # 1 is OK enter: convert -version
You should get something like this:

Version: ImageMagick 6.6.7-0 2011-01-01 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org
Copyright: Copyright (C) 1999-2011 ImageMagick Studio LLC
Features: OpenMP

The exact text will depend on what version of Image magic you installed.

Do you? If not do #3

3. If #2 is not OK enter: path

You should get a long list starting with PATH=....
In that list make sure you find an entry for Imagemagick something like:
C:\Program Files\ImageMagick-6.6.7-Q16
The exact text will depend on what version of Image magic you installed.

If you don't find it, then find where you installed ImageMagick and add it to your path environment variable.

IF all of the above are correct then do a copy and paste of each output and send it to me along with the GE2KAP.log after you get the error.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul,

I eventually deleted my working folder and started again, resulting in the GE error log disappearing.

However when I drag the converted file into Maxsea I get an " MT 7 unknown error message. "

In the past this did not happen and things worked perfectly, spot checking known points on the google images and an actual chart produced no significant difference - plus or minus my ability to accurately place the cursor.

Of course I can't back track to the original versions of the different programs that created the successful conversion .... Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards and Thanks

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Uploaded GE2KAP V4.1.3 that is not dependent on the OpenCPN GE plugins window ids.

Please try it out if you are having trouble with previous release:

www.gdayii.ca/Downloads GE2KAP

But the best way that I find using the plugin is to position the chart, then turn off the plugin, by clicking the icon, then run GE2KAP. That way get the full screen view of GE for that area and are able to overlay an image/chart if you want.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

JohnB,

Unfortunately I don't have Maxsea installed but for other programs like OpenCPN and SeaClear you have to do something to get the program to recognize the new chart. Are you doing a similar thing on MaxSea?

Send me a chart that gets the error and I'll see if my navigation programs recognize it or gets an error.
