Paul..

Every time I start GE2KAP the file name is mis-spelled differently and finally ends up as Sandnes_o1. Very strange...

sailorF54, thanks for the feedback

sinbad7,its not the filename its the name of the image and its normal to change everytime.

After you press OK, bring up the GE2KAP window with the Google earth window in the background, and take a screen shot so I can see both. Send it and the Ge23KAP.log to me. Make sure Ge is clear before you start the process.

Small revision to Creating a KAP chart overlaid with GE image (using OpenCPN and GE2KAP) to include more examples of Land Transparency.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

New Version: GE2KAP.V8.2.2 has just been uploaded to my website:

www.gdayyii.ca .... Downloads .....GE2KAP.

This version allows you to take the chart displayed on OpenCPN and overlay it on Google earth to create a new chart. It also allows you to correct the chart if it has bad datum.

It includes new langauge files for French, Spanish and German thanks to my translators: Arsène, Alex and Gilletarom.

Also, it has enhanced Help for English and French with images (again thanks to Gilletarom).

You can also see detailed examples of using GE2KAP at yachtvalhalla's site:
Creating a KAP chart overlaid with GE image (using OpenCPN and GE2KAP)
or at the French site:
Pratiques et Techniques de la Plaisance

Let me know if you have any problems.

Hi Paul..

GE2KAP v 8.2.2 works OK for me on Vista, BUT it forgets to remove the OCPN toolbar at the top and also all the GE controls on the right.

Otherwise great program.. Thanks..

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Tore,

I can't do anything about the GE controls, you have to turn them off before you start GE2KAP. But the OpenCPN toolbar shouldn't be there. Can you send me the GE2KAP.log and the KAP produced.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Tore,

In GE/View I turn everything off except for Historical Imagery. Then you can check to see if previous imagery is better. If not, turn it off before proceeding. If previous imagery IS better you will have to live with the image showing the Historical Imagery timeline.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul,

Thank you so much. I have yet to play with OpenCPN overlays, but I can attest to how useful GE2KAP is...

We are in Tonga now, where the CM93 charts (and most others) are off by several hundred feet. Our track is often going over land. So I used GE2KAP to make a few charts and it is just fantastic. You can pull these charts into your favorite raster charting program, or OpenCPN or Maxsea 10.x

Will have to spend some time playing with the overlay feature to see how that works.

Thanks so much for all your work!!

GE2KAP.V9.0.0 - Support for KML Polygons and Paths

www.gdayii.ca

Just uploaded this version. If you don't know what KML Polygons and Paths are don't feel bad, I didn't either until a user of GE2KAP,Tim Francis asked if I supported it. I think its very exciting because it can do some really neat things.

Both polygons and paths are things you can draw on Google earth. With a polygon you define an area and paths are basically like routes.

GE2KAP can create charts from the polygons and paths. For polygons it can create either one chart for the polygon or you create all the charts for the area and whatever height you desire. For paths, GE2KAP will create charts for the entire length of the path again at whatever height you desire.

When you display the charts on a navigation program that supports quilting like OpenCPN the charts produced look like a large chart of the area or path but you can zoom down for a detailed look.

Below are a few examples:

The Polygon one shows a harbor with 4 polygons defined, one large one for a high level few of the whole harbor, two smaller ones that will create one chart for each area a polygon at the bottom is a polygon that I defined to create charts for the whole area at a range (height) of 500 meters.

The Path example shows a path down the Rio Dulce river. GE2KAP will create all the charts for the river at a height of 1000 meters. No doubt someone will create a set of paths for the whole ICW.

Just beware you can create a LOT of charts. See the Help file "KML Support" for details . There are sample kml files in the Help folder.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I found a kml file for the whole ICW and loaded it into GE and added a height of 2000 meters. It says it will produce 822 charts. I didn't try it.

Its attached.

Don't forget to change the extension of 'view.xxx' to 'view.exe'
