Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Dan,

Just sent you a new version that should fix the problem of the charts not covering the entire polygon when its a very large area.

Also implemented your suggestion about the chart suffix _000x

I had to change the chart height and width sligthly to match the scale so the charts may be slightly off in range from what you specify in the polygon view but it will be very close.

If anyone else cares to test this version send me an email:
phiggins()gmn-usa.com (change the () to you know what)

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Paul,

Thanks!

I specified a large square for Allatoona and it has been working on 7993 charts for about 11 hours now. 11 hours to go. No problems.

I'll try the new version when I do Lake Lanier next.

Thanks, again!

I just hope some large representatives from Google don't come and drag me out screaming and kicking.

Naw, they're the do no evil company - they won't make you scream and kick when they drag you out.

That was Microsoft...

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Yeah, yeah, he's famous and all that. Big woops. Let's get back to work.

Seriously, though, Paul, that's cool. Cool also that you do systems work for HP. I did a tiny bit of scripting on an HP/UX box once. Mainly I do infrastructure code on iSeries for a paper company. Not systems work, but as close to it as an application programmer gets.

OK, but to the task at hand:

Main thing is the attached image. It shows that the 1 chart wide test (allatoona_test4-300) I did at 300 meters is different from the wide rectangle I did at 300 meters (allatoona_0). The test 4 charts are taller, and yet they overlap less than the 0 charts.

This was all done on V9.04. The logs, kmls, etc are at the link below. Way more info than you need. But I started putting it together before I thought of the obvious thing of zooming in and looking at the difference. Duh!

==> ge2kap debug stuff

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Actually my true colors are blue but not HP blue but IBM blue. I worked for IBM 28 years and they are the best. I'd tell you my feelings about HP but the moderator would delete this message. I only worked for HP because the bank that I went to work for after retiring from IBM outsourced their computer department and HP bought it. So the whole time I worked for HP, I only worked on IBM mainframes.

Anyway I have sent you an updated version that hopefully will fix your problems for large areas. As I said in my email, you are getting very close to where my code cannot work because of the chart size compared to the size of the polygon. You can't divide by zero.

In my next version I will check if its feasible to create the charts and if not I will give a message stating to make the polygon/path smaller or increase the height so the charts are larger.

Also, I will give you the option to restart GE immediatly when the response exceeds 1 second instead of waiting 30 seconds.

Very cool. I'll check it out this evening when I get home.

I'll also e-mail you about some adventures we are having with AIX and iSeries on XIV storage and LaserVault. New territory for us.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Slight issue. I think it should be easily fixed.

You need to change the chart numbering to 5 digits. It is doing a wrap-around.

This is an abbreviated log. You'll see a row of asterisks where I cut out stuff.

Starts with
poly # 87, chart allatoona_0_0001
then proceeds up to
poly# 10196, chart allatoona_0_9999
poly# 10196, chart allatoona_0_0000 - here's the problem...
then ends at
poly# 15264, chart allatoona_0_5067

Then tells me it is going to create 15067 charts.

==> The entire log can be found here...

I am not sure why it starts with poly 87. And not sure why it is 197 off at the 9999-0000 break.

The attached image shows where it started building the charts, below center in the horizontal strip. The vertical strip was the old test strip, and the large ones are the 15,000 meter ones.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Be afraid, be very afraid.

I modified your code. I changed the 4 to a 5 here:
Code:
      if chartbit = '1' then do  --
         chart_name = folder_name||placemark_name'_'right(index,5,'0')    <====
         comm._chart_files[chart_index] = chart_location||chart_name'.kap'
It appears to work. After letting it log all the files names, it all looks correct.

Notes: The last version you sent does not actually have the AUTORESTART code in it, so I changed the 30 to a 5 here:

Code:
   -- if response is GE 1 second then restart GE
   if response >= 1000000 then do
      limit = 5
Then, just for me, I commented this beep out:

Code:
      -- rc = self~Bring_To_Foreground(comm._mywnd)
      comm._mywnd~toForeGround
 /*     call beep 2000,50  */
I was going to add code for an option for NOTIFYBEEP 0/1, but after looking at the code, it's a bit over my head. I kinda THINK I see how to do it, but I think I'll leave it alone.

It appears to work. I'm firing it up.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

It works.

Created 15067 charts. Covers the defined area correctly.

Amazingly, OpenCPN has no problems with this many chart outlines on the screen. I zoomed in and scrolled around.

Now to do some more lakes in the area.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

dacust,

Thanks for the stress test. Even I am amazed it can create that many charts in one run. Keep going soonnyou will have detailed charts for all of North America.

To reward you, I will put in the NOTIFYBEEP in the next release so you can turn off the beep. Actually I like it, tells me its still working.

Thanks Soggypaws, Whitey is looking a little on the gaunt side.
