Just updating on this.
I now have OpenCPN on two win 10 PC's (one in upstairs wheelhouse, one on main tv in downstairs lounge area) and one on a Linux Mint laptop
All are using their own vk162 gmouse with great success

I also have a Matsutec ha102 AIS using another vk162 , no issues with any of them, near instant satalite fix.
A shame the same can't be said for the waas only dedicated marine plotter that has been relegated to 2ndary device.
