Great Bridge Lock Is Broken

More bad news. As of 4 PM this afternoon, Oct. 9, the Great Bridge Lock is inoperable and will not be repaired until at least 7 AM, Oct. 10, BUT. There is no guarantee. Be sure to check ahead if transiting. Chuck

As of Oct. 10 at 10:15AM the Coast Guard is broadcasting that the lock is still inoperable. Chuck

Lock is open for business. From the Corps of Engineers...
The district has reopened the Great Bridge Locks in Chesapeake, Va.

The locks are operating on their normal schedule of every hour between 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on demand afterward.

Engineers inspected, cleared debris from and greased the gears after the tides receded.

Mariners, traveling along the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal, can get the latest information from lock operators via marine radio channel 13. ^PB
