Thanks for all the replies. I am meaning chart plotter charts, but still it’s good to consider all the options available. I think a great deal depends on where and when you sail. Shoaling isn’t always a concern, but I don’t trust charts to be that exact. I’d rather not cut things too close.

Sand can be in a new place any day; mud can be in a new place by the following day, gravel may take a month; rock remains.

They are not free, but almost so (€21).


I heard somewhere you can also get them directly from Kartverket and for free, but I haven't explored that.

We update our U.S. NOAA raster and vector charts once/year. Aquamap and iSailor charts update as they release new ones: Aquamap, often throughout the year; iSailor occasionally.

Rock doesn't remain... it moves every now and then. Quite a long way sometimes.
