How to connect IPad Pro 12.9 and external GPS Garmin Glo2

Hi all,

For those who want to use IPad Pro 12.9 Wifi only with the external Bluetooth Garmin Glo2 here is a guide how to do that.
With normal iPads with iOS you just pair the Glo with the iPad and it works. Not the case with iPad Pros, the iPad Pro is missing the drivers. You need to download the Garmin pilot app as this is providing the needed drivers.

How to (exactly this order is needed):
1) pair the glo with the iPad, make sure it shows connected.
2) go to the App Store and download the Garmin pilot app and install it.
3) Open the pilot app. in the Garmin pilot app no subscription or log in is needed. In the Pilot App Click on home, Select Settings, then go to downloads and switch of the automatic download of updates. Then go to home and click connex. You will first see the Pad uses WiFi connection, then it replaces the WiFi with the glo. Keep the app running!
4) now disable WiFi in the iPad Pro general tab.
5) now start any additional app you use for sailing eg booting hd or I sailor. You will see no Location detected.
6) power down the iPad Pro and restart it, make sure WiFi is switched of.
7) in Bluetooth pair the glo2 with the pad.
8) start Garmin Pilot
9) start booting hd or any other gps. Startup, will take a bit as it installs the driver from Garmin and now hurray GPSvis working. Repeat this step 9 with every app that uses gps. Now you are set.
10) only now turn WiFi of pad back on.
Finished, your app should work now with the external Garmin glo, mine do
