ICW with a 82 foot mast ??

Hi every one

Im thinking of bringing a boat up from Florida to the Erie Canal.

I would like to sail from Fort Lauderdale to New York but sail on the inside around Cape Hatteras .

Ideas for the best route would be helpful , My wife is not real keen on doing the whole trip offshore , this time of year getting a long enough weather window could be tough.

The boat is 57 foot sloop with a with a 82 foot mast and a 7 foot draft.

Regards

Even in the gulf coast Intracoastal those dimensions would be problematic!! I have no personal experience on the east coast though

My mast is 76 and draft 7-6 and off-shore is really the only option. We have done it several times. Just pick a 2 day weather window.

In good weather you can go around Hatteras just outside the inner red markers which are about 5-6 miles off-shore in 70 ft of water.

There is no route from Beaufort north on the ICW that you could manage with a 82 foot mast. The bridge in the Alligator/Pungo canal in well under 65 feet. Why don't you wait in Beaufort for weather.

57' sloops don't do canals.

Re: ICW with a 82 foot mast ??

LOL Thanks guys,

I have done the water drum thing before , but because I was hard aground .

Looks like it is all offshore for me . Thats ok, I really don't like the canals much , just thought I would check and see if any of you had recent knowledge of the ICW in that area .

Beaufort sounds like a good Idea .

Regards
