BS. The anchorage for ships is well offshore. The anchorage for small boats is just inside and is totally protected. It is not in any way dangerous. However it looks toxic.

Do you happen to know why it is called the Gold Coast?

I plan on using my 26' S2 in the Sea of Cortez about 6 months a year. Still have bottom work to complete.

I'll be heading down to reconnoiter pretty soon in fact.

according to my Mexican govt sources lazaro cardenas is off limits to cruisers unless they are out in a 'cane and need protection and safe harbor. period.
it is an actively working merchant shipping port.
there is a small anchorage just inside the port for cruisers IFF they need safe harbor, otherwise is discouraged.
funny how all but you seem to know this information.
the southwest coast is called by gringos the gold coast and by locals the costa alegre, or happy coast. it is essentially the Mexican pacific Riviera,. resorts and prices high in winter or high season. prices drop like bricks in summer, aka hurricane season or low season.
be aware of the Mexican notices to mariners as well as the usa ones. you can miss a lot. funny how that works.
