Navionics can’t make route under bridges

Does anyone know a way around the problem where you’re trying to make a Route through a river with bridges, but Navionics won’t allow you to make a route past the bridges as it sees them as breaks in the river.

It’s such a non-user-friendly app.

I just solved my own problem. But I’ll leave it here in case someone else has this issue.

You must set a height of your vessel in vessel settings, otherwise it assumes that you can’t fit under any bridge.

Re: Navionics can’t make route under bridges

I have seen the opposite problem when using the Navionics auto routing.
Here in BC, between north and south Pender islands there is a narrow channel spanned by a low bridge. When heading to Port Browning from Maple bay Navionics always wants to take us through there. The clearance is fine for small power boats but not for any sail boat!

Like "the instructions say" always verify the route for safety so not a huge problem.

There are actually people who use the auto=route “feature”? Especially for use under sail its utility totally escapes me.

Re: Navionics can’t make route under bridges

On rivers I use autoroute to get distances between points and to make sure I'm taking the correct "fork in the road". Other than that I pretty much ignore it. I don't much like the look of the Navionics charts so I upload the routes to OpenCpn and Aquamap which I like better. Neither of those have an autoroute function of their own. On open water I just use simple point to point routes which only take a few seconds to set up, no autoroute needed.
As for water and air draft, I set air for the correct value and water at twice the actual draft.

You should watch the YouTube videos on 'raymarine live' and you will realize how user friendly it is.

A wise man once told me anything is easy when you know how.

Since Navionics has just tripled their annual price for using the route function, you should probably be looking at alternatives.

It may be a GPS receiving problem. Although the old Garmin 128 has minor issues with bridges, the newer ones are very inaccurate when going under bridges. A few seconds after we clear the bridge, it's correct again.

Did not triple in price. Not even close.

Seems so much better than assuming the opposite.

Yes, and you need to set the depth of your vessel as well.
