New River (Ft. Lauderdale) closure for bridge repairs

FEC Railroad Bridge on the New River in Fort Lauderdale will be closed for repairs Feb. 11-23, effectively closing the river

This is for anyone cruising this area in the upcoming February timeframe. Please plan accordingly. And definitely don't get stuck inside!

That's going to suck for a lot of people/boats.

Same thing in the Jacksonville area. Main St. on restricted schedule. RR bridge on restricted schedule and then closed from end of January to mid February.

Yes, it is too bad, at least we are on the hard right now, and can take the time to do refit work. That bridge pair is the only way we have out to sea from the St. John's (or even into the ICW) and it can be a real pain to have to wait in shifting tides, shipping traffic, speed boater wakes, etc., as the tide there can be very strong, and long waits in strong tides are tedius in the least. The river funnels there, so the stream is quite pronounced. Makes for an "exciting" ride, to be sure.
