Notice to Mariners (Pacific)

This little tidbit was gleaned from Yahoo news today:

"The government issued notices to mariners to remain clear of a section of the Pacific beginning at 10:30 p.m. EST Wednesday, indicating the first window of opportunity to launch an SM-3 missile from a Navy cruiser, the USS Lake Erie, in an effort to hit the wayward satellite."

The tidbit doesn't say *where* to remain clear of and I couldn't find the local notice to mariners covering different parts of the Pacific. I tried, Gord!

Anyone remember Skylab? Anyone of our mates from Australia get a piece?

Any guesses how far off the prediction the splash is? I can't believe our present group of geniouses is gonna get this even close to right...

If it's headed east to west I'm gonna find a subway station or bomb bunker to hide in. Anyone know where I can get a bio suit real quick?

There's no "o" in genius, genius.
"Our" current crop is pretty sharp. Not sure where about you are.

Think if JPL can hook up with a moving comet in space and bring back a piece they should be able to do this. We actually have been able to shoot down satellites with high flying F-15's for some time now.

Picking on spelling mistakes and typos is the lowest form of on-line argument. I am sure you were being facetious when you referred to me as a genius.

Which is interesting because I did not infer anywhere that I was a genius. Nor did I insult you or anyone else personally, yet you chose to insult me.

In regards to where I am it's right below my Avatar.

Anyway, the biggest problem the yanks have is getting thier own missile to recognise that one off thier own satelites is the enemy. The bad thing is that it is the fuel(450 Ltr's)that's harmful, very toxic.enough in fact to create a bad scenerio for 1/3rd the population of Brisbane Australia,if it hit land that is.If they miss and it hits the ocean who knows what it would do to the sea life in the area.Thats not all I know ,but It's enough.Mudnut.

I remember Skylab. I also remember some American Dude making a real stupid comment. When asked in a press interview about the Satilite hitting then Australia, his reply was, "won't be a problem, there's only dust and Kangaroo's there anyway". Of course that was over thirty years ago now, so it may not be exactly word for word.

Mudnut,

You can make a batch of that stuff (hydrazine) in your kitchen by mixing chlorine bleach with ammonia.

Just another useless fact...

Yes I was. I took your post as an insult aimed at the men and women involved in the project. Guess we had a misunderstanding, sorry.

Back to the point. The sat is moving along at something like 5 miles a second. This going to be like hitting a bullet with a bullet.
