Post it and we'll give you an opinion.

Re: Old-School Marine Navigation Books.

It's in the link already provided. Your opinion might be more valuable to Frank, the author. You can reach him on NavList: www.fer3.com/arc or on his own website (again, at the link provided).

But I can assure you from personal experience it is a tried and true method. As an alternative, I can recommend the Stark Tables, but - as I said before - Frank's method is faster and easier than any tables, IMHO.

Cheers!

The fifth edition has a complete H.O. 211 so with that, current almanac, chrono
and sextant you are set.

Celestial Navigation Step by Step by Warren Norville.

This one is a practical guide to celestial using sight reduction tables H.O. 214, 229 and 249.
The author states that: "If you can count change after buying this tests you know all the mathematics you need."

For piloting: "Modern Chartwork" Revised by Captain W. H Squair.
Being "old school" it has chapters covering the use of the DECCA and LORAN.
Textbook used at the Nova Scotia Nautical Institute during the late seventies.

Norie's Tables, first published in 1803.
If you are interested in the mathematics of navigation.
Great books, I know some of them.
Another well-laid-out book about celestial navigation is Celestial Navigation: A Complete Home Study Course by David Burch. It's easy to read, easy to follow, and fun.

Re: Old-School Marine Navigation Books.

There is a book called REEDS Which is full of tables and instructions. (Annual)
But talk to some old sailors and get then to teach the tricks of the Sextant.. Tuning. Presetting elevations etc.
It'll make it a lot easier. Aviation Tables are a LOT simpler than Marine too.
