Plugins for OpenCPN: How to Install ?

I have been downloading a plugin for celestial navigation for OpenCPN. It's a patch file. where do I put it? or how do I install it in OpenCPN?

I have been searching for 2 hours now and can't find any howto.

It's a patch file - you use it to patch the source code (make amendments) then re-compile the source code to a binary.

From the open cpn site, it said the program would generate a gpx file that can be used with open cpn. I down loaded the package(celestial, tides, chart work, etc.) but found nothing of the sort.
So I take it that one needs to be a techno geek(I mean that in a nice way) to be able to use plugins ?
Is there a friendlier way to do this?

Thanx

I've had a look.

Basically OpenCPN looks for a "library" file - which then gives OpenCPN the extra functionality.

On mine it came with a Grib Plugin and a Dashboard plugin. My only suggestion would be to email the author for a compiled version and instructions.
