proAIS Software - trying to connect

Hey there, I'm trying to connect proAIS software to a Sea Tracer S287 AIS. I have a dtech usb <> serial cable, but I keep getting the error "No unit detected on com8. Please check power and data connections".

The unit is powered up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: proAIS Software - trying to connect

Perhaps try powering off the AIS and power back up, there was another thread about this and I believe the solution was in the power up sequence.

Is the seatracer a SRT OEM ? ProAis only works with the SRT platform

The manual states to use proAIS. Dont know if there are different versions of proais, I downloaded one but also have a cd that came with it (and i have no cd drive). It's new old stock. manual: https://usermanual.wiki/SevenStar-Electronics/S287

I have tried now without power, and I'm still getting the same result. I tried ProAIS2 and it hard crashed my pc.

I bought the ais unit new old stock. That's about as much as i know.

Ok, I got the files off the cd - same software with the seven stars splash screen, but same result.

Re: proAIS Software - trying to connect

Backing all the way up to the beginning, is the DTech USB-Serial working properly? How do you know it is Com8?

Assuming Windows on the computer, open Device Manager, Ports. Does the DTech show up there? What Com port? If not, check the USB folders, does the DTech show up there? Does it indicate any problems? If the DTech isn't showing up in Ports or USB then try installing the driver manually before plugging it in.

I just tried uninstalling the default driver and using the one on the cd that came with it...I set the baud rate to 38.4k as per the AIS manual. I verified the com port and even tried different com ports. Each time i power cycled the unit and restarted my pc many times. I have a different serial cable on order but for some reason I am not holding my breath.

Wonder if there's some other trickery that needs to be done to get this device setup?
