Yes it’s a custom android build but there’s no way to load third party apps without the engineering firmware. It will not allow any of the normal app loading to work. I’ve tried side loading but I can’t get it to work

The other issue is the api is it’s standard Android so accessing standard /custom Ray features or functions isn’t possible programmatically. There’s is nonspecific developers api other then generic Android. Do data on the seatalkng bus isn’t accessible for example

Has there been any progress on this item? I would like to connect my laptop to the raymarine charplotter, or the Samsung S8 tablet.

The PO connected his iPad to the charplotter via wifi. But it's not clear if he could navigate the autopilot from there, for example.

OP here, no real progress at this point. What I have learned is that RM provides an iOS and android app(s) their web page states it interfaces with axiom mfds and provides the same functionality EXCEPT FOR auto pilot control. We will not have our new system for Another 12 months as boat still being built. So no real world experience yet.
