Roanoke Sound Channel w/ Sailboat?

Any thoughts about navigating the Roanoke Sound Channel (NC) from Pamlico Sound to Albemarle Sound with a sailboat, 5.7 ft draft?

The channel is supposed be dredged to minimum 6.6 ft, accourding to NOAA charts. How reliable is that? Experiences?

I'm ok with the Washington Baum Bridge's 65 ft clearance.
