Ship data recorder

Hi, I want to make software that can record ship data into a database.

So this application will be created using Python using the Pyais library. My application will run on Raspberry OS or other Linux-based OS. so my application will decode the ais message captured by rtl-sdr and will save it to the database.

that's the design of my application, does anyone want to try it if my application is ready? Or are there any of you guys who have made similar applications?

Re: Ship data recorder

What would be the purpose of this? Are you trying to record the data from own ship? or just recieved data from surrounding vessels? There are already dozens of ways to record own ship data, and other ship AIS data is archived by any number of online services.

I do not get the utility?

Re: Ship data recorder

Actually this is the final assignment of my college. My application will record ship data around and save it into a local database.
but this is still a draft, I also don't know whether my lecturer will accept this or not, hahahaha....

Your lecturer would not accept this but OPENCPN does log your position, course and speed. It is easy to retrieve this data from within OPENCPN or export it. You are reinventing the wheel.

Re: Ship data recorder

how to export data from opencpn? do you need additional plugins? all I see from opencpn is just showing the location of the ship. There is indeed ship data, but you have to manually record the ship data into Excel or other data processing applications

I don't have OPENCPN on my home computer which is where I am at the moment so I can't give you the step by step. I have used it when migrating to a new boat computer. It is not difficult.

Re: Ship data recorder

The application that I will make aims to capture data. so we don't need to manually record ship data. and also my application will be able to run simultaneously with opencpn. opencpn will display the location of the ship on a map chart, while my application will record the ship's data as a recap and history into a database where we know the data will be needed at some point

Re: Ship data recorder

OpenCPN

Use Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) to record and play NMEA files.
Save NMEA stream to a file. Replay NMEA stream previously saved.

Re: Ship data recorder

I've used VDR, but it only record raw AIS messages into CSV, doesn't record decoding data. and VDR only saves to CSV, where the file could be deleted and the data will also be lost
