Please provide any reference which refers to horizontal placement of sidelights and "the masthead light" as opposed to "the forward masthead light".

Re: Sidelight Placement under power >20Meters

This is getting ever so circular.

Does a sloop have a foremast or a frd 'Masthead light?

Rhetorical I know .

The answer is once again 'no ' on both points.

The part of ANNEX 1 that says the sidelights shall not be frd of the Frd Masthead light is referring to vessels with two or more masts.

I'm done. The OP can direct any further correspondence on the matter to IMO.

Re: Sidelight Placement under power >20Meters

And just before I go

The annex says --
'(b) On a power-driven vessel of 20 meters or more in length the sidelights shall not be placed in front of the forward masthead lights. They shall be placed at or near the side of the vessel.'

The annex does not say
' if there is only one masthead light, then that one light is the “masthead light” and any reference to sidelight placement relative to the masthead light refer to that light.'
