Spoil area on the south side of the Miami channel

I couldn’t find the depths for this spoil area so I sailed around it. (Yellow track line) I felt a little silly especially with only a 4.5 ft draft.

Anyone have better information on this area?

Maybe try calling the local TowBoat US or SeaTow folks. They'll know. I've gone past but never closer than 4 miles out.

It the local towing companies don't know you might get some idea by watching other boats to see if they cross it. I frequently see small fishing boats in areas that look very shallow or unmarked on the charts. BUT a spoil area is liable for change as that is where dredges dump their loads so could be 6' one day and 3' the next. Also might be very inconsistent with lumps here and there.

If no info from any other source wait for a calm day and go explore in a dinghy.

We just passed this area last Wednesday with 6-8 ft seas. It's plenty deep.

We draw five feet. No issues.

I go through there every year and have never found less than 10'. I draw 6 1/2'. My usual rout is a little west of the range mark on the south side of the dogleg
