Toizaki Sextant Info Needed

I have an early (#1374) Toizaki sextant, but Google has almost no info about the company.

Does anyone know what year that serial number corresponds to? Also, I'm assuming the scopes are 4x and 20x, but not sure.

Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Toizaki Sextant Info Needed

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, drdavidc.

Might be a (1960-1970s) Toizaki Marine Sextant by Takizawa Mfg, distributed by Kagiya Yoko, of Osaka, Japan.
Maybe a Tamaya knock-off.

Pretty sure Toizaki & Co. Ltd. existed, as I found several old auctions using the company name. May have been purchased by Takizawa at some point, but if that were true, I don't think they'd use the Toizaki name. IIRC, Japanese businesses adopt the name of their parent company, which is why there are Yamaha motorcycles and Yamaha pianos; both part of the larger Yamaha holding company.

Re: Toizaki Sextant Info Needed

pre 1979 as my sextant is ser# 8226.. nice instruments if they haven't been abused.. i wrote a much longer reply but the damn site here ate it! anyhow, use it and enjoy it.

the Certificate of test for the Index error inside the lid of the box should show the year of initial test which should be the same as the year of manufacture. get out and use it!
