The USA has been fined $1.4 million for reef damages based on normal calculations per square foot.
Of course a few senators up for reelection are making noises that is not enough but Philippines President is satisfied surveyors under World Heritage supervision have imposed the legaly correct fine.
Latest report is that salvage and cleanup has cost US taxpayers $48 million

Geeze....just pay the bill. US senators spend more US taxpayer money on themselves each year.

Now only just a few days after the last piece was removed a Chinese fishing vessel with 12 on board has ran up on same Reef.

(Reports they were heard muttering in Chinese. ..."goddamed #%& Ipad")..

Dang that just sucks!! You know there's not going to be nearly the caution used to remove that one. :'( poor reef. I'm thinking we need some better charts or something.

Re: U.S. Navy ship goes aground due to bad charts

Looks like it will be an easy pull-off as the weather is calm and it appears it did not run hard aground at speed.

My guess is the Chinese fishing boat was “prospecting” at night around the reef for some shark fins and cut the corner.
If so….Hope they throw the book at them!

I'd better get to the supermarket before the word gets around and the existing stock gets cleaned out.

Pulled the fishing vessel off of reef after 2 weeks of twiddling their thumbs.

A lot to be said for steel hulls…..
