Using PC Navionics As Garmin Repeater

Just made an offer on a boat that has a Garmin 8600xsv chartplotter at the helm. I should be able to connect my PC to it via WiFi, and use the PC running Navionics as a 'repeater' at the nav station. That seems pretty straightforward.

BUT, if I do my route planning on the PC how do I transfer that route to the Garmin? Everything I've found on the Navionics site says you need to transfer from a tablet or smart phone using ActiveCaptain.

What about us PC users? I really, really hate iPads and refuse to use a 4 inch phone screen for Navionics.

A long time ago I did route planning on a PC using Garmin BlueChart but I'm really showing my age there...

Isn't there an easier way to get Navionics data from PC to chartplotter?

Why only 4" screen? Android tablets can have much larger screens.

You're still showing your age, unfortunately Navionics stopped supporting/developing the PC App aeons ago and all they mention on their web site today is the Boating App for iPad & Android devices.

If we're talking about the same version of the Navionics PC App, then all is not lost as you can use the GPS Exchange Format (GPX) to transfer routes & waypoints.

From the Navionics settings menu, select "Export/Import data", then select Lowrance, then select GPX. You should then be able to import the GPX file into your Garmin chartplotter by transferring the file via a memory card.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm just SOL since I don't have the PC software, just looking at Chart Viewer web app. That may work in port but I'm not going to chase satellite internet just for this purpose.

Guess I'll have to start looking for a decent Android tablet....

Or, seeing where you state you are, you stop insisting on Navionics, switch to OpenCPN with the free official charts from NOAA and live happily without internet access ever after...

I have OpenCPN already. Guess I'll have to dive into it a bit more and see how it can work with the Garmin plotter.

Thanks!
