Hello maitai,
When does VLM take the new windgribs.
Are there exact timemarks for this gribchange or as soon as a new grib is available?

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

In qtVlm you go grib->download from VLM, it shows the last 4 (you want to take only the last one), there is the time/date there (GMT), so you know at which time is the next one.

Care there is a temporary grib that appears more or less 1/2 hour before the complete one, containing only a few hours (12 I think). Fanatics are taking this grib to try to guess what has changed. This temporary grib is applied to VLM until the next "5-days" one is availaible (which will have the same 12 first hours). After around 1/2h more there is a grib with 8 days (grib->download), then 15mn later approx you can d/l a grib with saildocs (16 days). Of course 16 days forecast are a bit hmmm to be taken with care As is everything over 2 or 3 days.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

The REAL race so far with latest report 14:00 - Bernhard Stamm from Switzerland is still the leader, doing 12 kn presently.

The qtVlm optimized route shows correct wind details but the polar used is based on a Sunmagic 44 which is of course a vastly slower boat so the boat speed is incorrect.

I will only show the leader as all position details has to be done manually.

Phillippe.. What listed polar should I use to approximate the boat types taking part in this race?

Use Imoca2008, you should have it and it's very close to real polars.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

One boat collided with her chase/support boat and Safran believes he had hit something hard.

They had an easy start this year and will be out of Viscaya tomorrow!

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

FYI you can unzip this http://www.virtual-winds.com/maitai/VDG_boatImg.zip in your qtVlm's img/boats directory, to show an image for each real boat.
