That would be an unsafe condition.
I wonder how many of our US cousins carry loaded firearms?

….and now that guns and drag shows have been introduced to this discussion about booze aboard a boat I suppose it’s inevitable that we also somehow tie in which anchor they use or whether multihulls or monos are best, along with whether or not they think LiFePO4 batteries will cause their boat to burst into flames. Time to check out of this thread. Circular arguments, and now a trans discussion. Boring.

However, on my last ocean crossing, we celebrated with a jigger of bourbon when we crossed the equator.

All things considered, I was happier to do that than jump in and swim across. YMMV.

Re: Booze underway

My wife and I, while sailing offshore on a passage will have our normal 4:00 PM cocktail (weaker than usual) before dinner, if the weather is settled. If the weather is not settled we do not.

I might have a beer in the afternoon if it's hot.

On many deliveries with the owner on board, some have a drink before dinner, some not. On one delivery the owner said absolutely no drinking. Three days out he broke out a bottle of wine and drank the whole thing -- not good. On another delivery with an alcoholic owner, he would drink to obvious impairment every afternoon. However, somehow when he appeared to stand watch at 11:00 PM he was absolutely sober. Not sure how he did it. I did check on him but it was never an issue.

Like most things in life, moderation is good.
