Re: Check your vessel before you leave..

I'm one of those people that close all of my thru-hulls religiously. Hoses are know to deteriorate after time. Anti-siphons are known to clog and the list goes on.

I assume ours is still in the barn. If it sinks we all have serious problems.

Re: Check your vessel before you leave..

That is one of the things I love about an outboard after having boats with diesels. So one less factor that may contribute to water ingres. If I get a composting toilet it would eliminate to more holes in the hull.

The problem with years of doing your check list and nothing ever going wrong is that you become complacent and negligent. That is when it bites you in the a**.

once I leave the boat .. all is fine. but leaving and going over the checklist can be painful and I always have a tough time with it.

Same here except all my seacocks are closed. I empty head/large 5.5 gallon porta potti by hand at the facility and also use a bucket if far enough offshore.

A dock mate that is just leaning asked me recently if I had run antifreeze thru my engine for Winter.

I said no it's an outboard, and I start it all Winter. Water drains when I raise it which is sometimes days after I run it

I meant floating in the proper orientation, but I appreciate your optimism. This is what it looks like today, still floating, sort of.
