Liferaft DIY servicing

We have twice had our liferaft serviced. Both times it was surprisingly expensive. Having watched them do the servicing both times, it seemed to me that it can easily be done by oneself. It is just a matter of doing a test inflation, replacing all the expired food and medicines, and the refilling the gas bottle, which could be done by a local dive shop.

There is one major part that is not so easy to do:
the burst band that holds the cannister together, but breaks apart when the inflation is activated.

Does anyone know what the brust force is? It seems to me that one could just pass a rope around the cannister and then join the two ends together with a nylon cable-tie of known breaking strength.

As a leisure craft we are not bound by SOLAS requirements, so don't need an official sticker on the liferaft.

Any comments?
