An interesting thing about having an opinion, where does yours cease to be irrelevant, and start to become good advice. Hmmmm!!

From here in our sunroom today, having coffee, watching it f*#/ing snowing outside, freezing temperatures, the driveway getting blocked again... I think all the down islanders are more wealthy than me, and I want what they have! I see the third world islands/countries (the ones closer to the equator)wealth, even from my boat. Maybe that's why I believe to get along so well while there.. Who would really want to trade with me?

You better read up on this: the Caribs were a very violent bunch, always at war with other tribes and the only way they touched the chief of another people is when they ate them. Yes, ate them as in cannibalism. The word "canibal" comes from the Carib language.

They also ate the first European explorers, Giovanni da Verrazzano comes to mind :

Also, read up about the "Black Caribs". Learn to recognize them if you're gonna spend time in St Vincent or St Lucia (no joke).
Carib heritage may still be a factor in violence in the Caribbean. I do not know this, but the islanders tell me this again and again, and they obviously fear Caribs (most often "Black Caribs"). I have visited a Carib village but it was just another tourist trap and a miserable one at that. I did not visit the Caribs on Dominica where 3,000 or so still live, because I decided to stay safe aboard instead
If I know little about it ,how do you know so much about it ?You dont believe all that has been written by the victors do you ,or do you? What accounts have you read about this type of thing? Did they(indians) leave a written account of this type activity,or did the europeans? It does make a better story if we read it from the point of view of the "interlopers" as they called us savages and the like..I believe people that are living day to day have better things to do than plot to killing each other, not saying that they didnt ,just that they didnt do it as much as "some historians " would have us (you) believe..And when they did do such things it was most likley at the most desperate times when everything else failed..The most blood thristy of all has been and is "The White Man" but if it makes one fill better to think that the savage had lots of time to plot killing and raids on his own people, have at it,I think he spent more time looking for food and providing for themselves than plotting to kill others,They learned that(mass killing) from the illegal aliens that invaded their homeland and stole their land..course I could be wrong,or you could be...

I know a bit about it because I studied it, visited these tribes, talked to them etc. You didn't do any of that, yet you keep insisting you are right with your opinion which is the opposite of all in recorded history. It's okay, this is just an Internet forum

Re: Mass Robbery in St. Lucia

From Wiki: In Myths and realities of Caribbean history the author Basil A. Reid concluded that "No evidence, either archaeological or from firsthand observations by Europeans, conclusively proves that Island-Caribs ever consumed human flesh."

Book Link Included Here For Kindle:

Amazon.com: Myths and Realities of Caribbean History (Caribbean Archaeology and Ethnohistory) eBook: Basil A. Reid: Kindle Store

If you want it free

Myths and Realities of Caribbean History - Basil A. Reid - Google Books

See chapter 7 specifically "Myth 7: THe Island-Caribs Were Canibals"

This ties into alot of myth perpetuating that is designed to dehumanise a people to make it easier for people to commit atrocities upon them and to justify it. Such as the other myth that Island-Caribs and "Black-Caribs" were inherently more violent than other groups in the Caribbean. This is not supported by historical evidence.

The reality is that the Caribs were hounded by Colonials in the same way that the natives in the US were and reacted as any group would that were being taken for slaves from the 16th century onwards, were slaughtered to clear land and even when they entered negotiations they would still have their land taken from them.

This like most things being discussed in this thread is not a simple black and white issues with good guys and bad guys.

Apparently, all you need to not get eaten by the poor savages is to be less snobby than the snob sitting next to you

I think, that, "Your thinking of Cannibalism!"

"Now,

That's an Idea? That would take care of the problem:

"Hey, where is John?" "I don't know, last time I saw him, was at Dinner!"

Sincerely,

Trident Sailing too you!

1
: banish, exile

: to withdraw (oneself) from residence in or allegiance to one's native country
intransitive verb
: to leave one's native country to live elsewhere; also : to renounce allegiance to one's native country

To be an expat - you not only have to leave - you have to renounce allegiance to your country.

Carsten,
Although this is the "dictionary" definition, it is not how it is commonly used in History when referring to American Artists who went to Europe to pursue their art/careers. In the former list I gave, I don't believe any of them renounced their US Citizenship but lived abroad for many years. During the Roaring Twenties after WWI, many White American Artists were called "expatriates" and the famous Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein were but a few. Below is an article you will find interesting. Good luck and good sailing.
