Yeah, on that style of boat we always had the procedure that as soon as we were anchored the swim ladder got folded down and left down, 24/7, swimming or not.

It would need a clean periodically but being all stainless steel that was a better option than drowning because of not being able to get back on the boat after some misadventure.
