NASA Astronauts Drink Piddle !

The crew of Atlantis, the final mission of the US space shuttle program, are testing a urine recycling system developed by NASA that is capable of turning astronauts' pee into a tasty sports drink.

The "forward osmosis bags" are already being used by soldiers to clean dirty fluids but NASA has adapted the baggie system for use in space

The bags work without power by taking advantage of forward osmosis.

OK, I didn't put this in the Provisioning forum!

The article has a photo of it.

But this is a very simple, small bag and could be a perfect addition to a liferaft as it works without power.

I don't know if it could do seawater as well as the salinity is higher?

Any thoughts? (apart from the obvious)

i did it in the Army, not a big deal when they are training you for a scenario where you could potentially have no other options. you can redrink it 7 times before it becomes toxic .
