question about orca attacks

I'm wondering if any of the sailboats were motoring at the time of the attack?

1. I haven't heard of motorboats being attacked.

2. If I were a sea creature I'd stay away from rapidly spinning propellers.

It's unlikely that orcas, smart though they are in regard to phenomena in their own ecological niche, would have any concept of what a spinning propeller is and of the danger it represents.

I do think, however, that since they communicate twixt each other with sound signals at least some of which are audible to H.sapiens, the racket made by infernal combustion engines would cause them to turn away. Yet we see cetacians as well as dolphins that have scars from what we used to call an "Evintude rash".
