Why would it? This is hardly unprecedented. Flares like this happen pretty regularly. Last one was 4-5 years ago, which is not all that long. Didn't knock out GPS then, and won't knock it out now. Yeah, it will probably have some, brief, effect in some areas. And then it will pass. Like these kinds of flares always do.

The real problem with solar flares is that the Solarites (they live in the side of the sun we never see) sneak in on the back of the flare. Cow mutilations go way up. It's really a nasty business. Meanwhile everyone's busy watching the pretty lights in the north.

Apparently we now have a satellite on the far side of the sun. Now we can keep an eye on those sneaky Solarites. I think I better go out and bring the cows in.

Wasnt it a solar flare that knocked the canadian power grid out a few years back? not saying its the end of the world, still not going to trust my GPS 100 percent of the time.
