If you're not going to use the head for a few days or longer, before leaving add the equivalent volume of a "shot" of bleach inside the head. When you come back, you won't see any bacterial growth and you will not smell any foul odor either. Caution...do not over do it with the bleach; just a volume of a shot glass is all that is needed.
