Interesting... it would be neat to add a tracker dongle to a PFD and program the bouy to "auto SAR". Throw in GPS return programming and Bob's your uncle.

Needs a new name...I keep reading it as "Unsafe".

Do I really need to list the reasons why I dislike this thing, & or, think it's an impediment to proper MOB recovery proceedures?

Edit: If you do a search, a few months back there's another thread on this item.

I think you do, if you want us to know the specifics of your opinion, as I tried doing a search for the thread and given CF's search functionality was not successful (short of spending an hour wading through search results).

It is, in short, a motorized Lifesling. I could see it being effective in very specific circumstances, but in the absence of an actual Lifesling, a complete liability on a range of fronts. Cost, complexity, mechanical failure, this list goes on...

I have an SOS Dan Bouy rigged with an AIS transponder on the stern rail, a lifesling, and horseshoe on the stern rail. Would never consider the Unsafe Life Bouy. It's a gimmick.

Re: Usafe life bouy..

If the conditions are good enough for this thing to actually get to the person (wave height, wind), I'd be able to get them out quickly anyways. It's the bad conditions where rescuing and keeping the person in sight can get hard. This thing doesn't seem to help you in those.
