Boat Cushions

Hi everyone. I'm new to the site I just got some great cushions done by custom canvas of Florida out of Jupiter. 4 bottoms 4 back rests for $550 and they even repaired my Bimini top for free!! Nice people they go all over broward and to Vero beach where I found them at customizedcanvas@yahoo.com.

It would probably help to have their website instead of an email address. If they do good work, it is always a good thing to talk it up to your friends.

That looks very nice. We had something similar done here in Australia in Sunbrella and paid $1500. We didn't get ripped, it's just what you pay here. The Upholsterer who did our work would pay a lot more rent for his shop and for his material. It's just how it is.It looks like you Sailors in the US pay about half what we pay here and often less. I bought my hydraulic steering in the US and saved about 40% on exactly the same gear.
Just saying :-)
Cheers

That's an incredibly low price for that amount of work!

Sounds like a low price to me as well.

bigboaterman78. Do you know if the cushions made from closed cell foam? I assume that's the preferred choice for cockpit cushions. How thick?

There's no way that new foam was included in that price, this had to be a re-cover. Unless the shop is owned by a friend or family member and they did it for the price of the materials.

Not necessarily. Considering that they are in Florida, they might use Central American labor. I am currently in Guatemala and am totally amazed at the high quality canvas work done here. In my case some cushions were made for me using materials I had brought from the states, intending to do the work myself. However the local canvas maker was working on the boat next door so I invited him over for a quote. I got all five cushions for my cockpit made, using my materials, for sixty dollars total. The excellent quality work, far better than I could have done myself, was completed in two days as quoted.

I don't know what the quote would have been with their materials, but I have been to the shop now and what I saw on the rack was brand name materials, I.e. Sunbrella, YKK, etc.

Since there are regular containers zipping back and forth from here to Miami, that might be how they pull it off.
