Cabin Fan Recommendations Needed

I looked at several 12v fans at west marine. None of them seemed to move a lot of air. Is this typical of marine fans? I'm more interested in air volume than silent running. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks...

a. We had 3 Hella Turbos shoot sparks and smoke last year.
Sail Delmarva: Search results for fan
We switched all 4 fans to Borras and are happier now.

b. If you want to move a lot of air, go with a 20" to 24" 110v house fan (get it to fit a companionway). Set on low these can really air condition a boat without burning much electricity or much sound. The PO left one on the boat; I tired it once, in desperation when closed up during a rain storm, and was amazed at how obvious this was. The larger blades are SO much more efficient.

Re: Cabin Fan recommendations needed

There was a Practical Sailor test/comparison article in April 2008 and a follow-up articles in August 2009 and September 2010.

So they take their ventilation seriously, I guess.

I haven't heard many bicker with their results. It shouldn't be too hard to find a library that keeps PS; finding a sailor with ones you can look at is probably easier.

Hi...we had a similar issue. I found the new dyson fans to be fantastic... Yes, the same guys that make those funky but very good vacuums. They are very modern looking, slim and come in three different sizes. They are a real conversation piece as they don't have blades...have a look online at dyson.com
They are available at most electronic stores etc.. Cheers

Ilove these little guys:

Caframo 747DC-WCS Cabin Fan White 7 in. 12V DC

Have eight mounted with either screw-down bases or optional clip-on bases, running in Mexico for nine years, never replaced a motor but need to replace the blades every four years or so (about $6, and they pull off and push on). They move a lot of air and are thrifty on power...

Those are the ones I use and I've been very impressed.

We have been using the fans recommended by svcambria for years and highly recommend them. They move the most air, are very quiet and really last a long time, even with continuous running. Chuck

Re: Cabin Fan recommendations needed

I just got back from west marine. Got one fan (Caframo 747) for now. Will play with various locations using suction mount until satisfied, then hard mount and wire hard. Thanks

Been using the 9.99 clamp on ones from auto zone for years. lots of air lots of noise and that strange sucking sound is your battire being eaten alive in a few hours!

The Caframo fans are available at Home Depot for about half what they are at WM. I think I paid about $25.00 each.

I have bought them from Home Depot also but have not been able to find them there lately. Chuck

Re: Cabin Fan recommendations needed

We bought two Caframo fans a year ago. We like them, but both are now being replaced under warranty. (No questions asked except for the serial numbers on the fans) I wish I could still get the HotWire fans!
