Feedback: W.R.Hodgens Marine Insurance

For various reasons, considering changing my insurance from Boat US. Have an attractive quote from this broker

W.R.Hodgens Marine Insurance. Inc.
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315
Yacht Insurance | All Oceans | All Yachts | W R Hodgens Marine Insurance

for a Lloyds of London syndicate policy. Interesting, he received several quotes from different syndicates with significantly different conditions and prices.

Any feedback as to W.R.Hodgens Marine Insurance. Inc. as a broker (after sales service for example) or a Lloyds policy, especially settlement of claims.

Re: Feedback: W.R.Hodgens Marine Insurance

We used Bill for a lot of years and he was great. When we got our boat - it was our first boat a brand new Jeanneau DS40 and we had only taken a couple of ASA sailing lessons and chartered a couple of times and we lived and kept the boat in Miami - can you say hurricane zone? He insured us.
then he worked with us on where we would be sailing to keep our costs down. We were not going far so he built the insurance to match our needs. One year when we headed north he said he could cut our insurance cost by a bunch if we would stay north of a certain point until Nov 1. We did and he did.
On our first trip the Bahamas we got hit by lightening and barely got back to Miami. It was over 25k in damage. No issue and no increase in premium. Great service.
The only reason we are now not with them is a huge misunderstanding with someone in his office on our need for where we are going to keep the boat when we were in the Western Caribbean. Otherwise we would still be with him.

Re: Feedback: W.R.Hodgens Marine Insurance

We have been happy with Bill and Gloria as our agents. We thought we might have a claim a few months ago. They sent a local surveyor to assess, then offered a settlement. We ended up paying out of pocket because the damages weren't much above the deductible.

But it was timely and easy for us to work with them.
