Ants are easy. Borax will get rid of them quick. Mix with sugar and place along a few of their pathways.

Bait is the best way to kill the colony, but this method takes weeks. You've just got to be patient. I recommend that you spray poison (e.g I've used Ortho Home Defense https://lawngardenpicks.com/general/home-insecticide/ ). Spray the ants from where you can see them . Sometimes, that's enough to keep new ants out. Also, I spray a perimeter around the whole boat regularly for prevention, especially in summer when there seem to be more buggers.

I consider poisons only as a last resort, as I worry about possible health effects on humans. If using poisons, bait traps provide an effective means of containment, so it doesn’t affect human occupants and can be completely disposed of without lingering effects.
I have tried many brands, and the most effective in my experience is Terro Liquid Ant Baits.

Re: how to kill ants on board

we had a problem with the tiny black ants. not lots but often in the galley

eventually got some ant-rid
https://www.bunnings.com.au/combat-5...-pack_p2960330

marvellously effective...we never even opened the bottle : as soon as we got it, all the ants disappeared and never been back

recommend this product !

cheers,

+1. Put the borax/sugar soln. on cotton balls instead of all over the boat (strategically placed). They will take the food back to the nest and it will wipe them out. Easy way of doing it w/o spraying pesticides in the boat.

And to be clear, Terro ant baits, the most effective of all, are none other than borax in a sweet liquid.

That’s the best way. Either bought in terro form or home brew.

Borax is probably the most important thing to have on a boat, since it’s also the #1 mold fungicide. I hear it can be used for laundry too. Ha ha.
