Looking for Opinions on designers

I am seeking opinions about the best US current designers (architects or otherwise) for cruising sail boats in the 27 to 34 foot on deck range. I suspect I know the most common answer, but there are some significant differences between what he does and what I like. For various reasons my preferences run from the Nor'sea 27 (aft cabin and rudder), to Bristol Channel Cutter 28 (fore cabin and hull) and on to the Westsail 32 (solid) and even the oft maligned Dreadnought 32 (ketch, tiller, and motion comfort aside from the hobby horsing for most). All opinions appreciated, but please do not argue about why I do not want this or that. At my stage of life I need to move, not debate, and most of the fun is getting there.

Thanks, Brian

Re: Looking for Opinions on designers

Brian,

Cape George cutters are very nice boats that fit in with your preferences. I would check them out as well. Todd Ecker is the builder these days. They also are building the BCC...... they bought the rights and molds. Always a handful of used boats around. They also have a fairly well organized forum for Cape George owners. You can find them at the Cape George web site.

I would also check out the early Chuck Paine designs. Only the earlier designs would fit the bill..... Tom Morris built most of these. His work and reputation is top flight. We have owned a "Francis" and an "Annie". Both were great boats. Now own an Able (Whistler) 32....... also a Chuck Paine design.

Cape George Cutters

I believe that is the link to the CGC forum. There are lots of pics and the like.
Builder is Todd Uecker....... misspelt his name. Pronounced "Ecker."

Re: Looking for Opinions on designers

Please read, or reread, the last sentence of my post. That said, note that I refer to 'US' designers, not 'Americans.'
