Re: Marine A/C reviews and recommendations

Huh! Lithium batteries don’t require an oil change or filling up with fuel. 1000 watts of solar and 600 amp/hr battery bank and my aircon runs for free happy days

How quiet are they? Would they be suitable for an installation under a berth? I have the air handler from an old Cruisair system there at the moment and want to upgrade, but I wasn’t sure if I needed a split system there or if I could manage noise wise with a self contained unit.

The new self contained units have a sound shield option that encases the already pretty quiet compressor.

Re: Marine A/C reviews and recommendations

I’ve come across this discussion a few times in recent years. Good info.

One brand I feel worth mentioning is CTM Marine. I bought their 16000 BTU unit earlier this year, replacing a Dometic DTU16.

After running the unit all summer without even a single hiccup, I can say I feel good about my purchase. It's quieter than the Dometic, cools just as well, and was a literal drop-in replacement. Great pricing on the unit too.

Had to wait a couple of weeks to get it, but that seems to be the norm nowadays.
