My New Phone Lets me see in the dark!

I just replaced my phone with a Cat C61 unlocked GSM unit that is IP68 & IP69 waterproof, has an FLIR thermal camera, a cat 2 laser and an air quality monitor/alarm.

I picked it for its sailing uses. Invaluable for MOB, engine overheating diagnosis, emergency signalling, keeps you safe when working with paint/resin down below. It just seemed other sailors would benefit if they knew of it's existence. They were $1200 when launched. I got mine for $689 on Amazon. Here's a review....

I think this is the device https://www.catphones.com/en-us/cat-s61-smartphone/? I wish you hadn't introduced us, now I kind of want one. 3m for one hour? I could take pictures underwater? Not sure I'm willing to try, but still....

Sorry, wasn't trying to cause phone envy :-) But it is a joy of a device for sure. I moved to a Panasonic toughbook laptop after the boat beat up 3 laptops in under a year. I was replacing my phone for the 3rd time in a year and thought I wonder if I could do the same... :-)

What are you doing to beat up electronics like that? I'm rapidly approaching six years on my Lenovo T450s with nearly 100,000 sea miles and as many air miles. I just replaced my iPhone 6 (how old is that?) with another iPhone 6 when the battery swelled up and broke the logic board.

To be fair, a Thinkpad is like a toughbook but much less ugly.

Who knew, they're sold at Home Depot ($659). Not sure that's a recommendation though.

And then I find out they come in a dual-SIM version, decisions

Re: My New Phone Lets me see in the dark!

For all IPhone idets: FLIR has developed an attachment via lightning connector that lets you do the same thing as the CatS60-61, except for air quality. But Apple may be working in that as well in the framework of their health application.
You have full functionality of an IR-camera. I use it regularly to check on motors, construction site building errors etc. And now with the CoVid my visitors are scanned with their consent

Re: My New Phone Lets me see in the dark!

Holy crap! I never knew such a thing existed. Now I want one!!!

BTW, all I can find is an S61, not C61. Maybe they've upgraded model numbers or something. Or could be just a typo.

The sad thing is, my wife just ordered a new phone. Same model as I have now. I could have given her mine and justified buying a new S61. Oh well. I'm sure mine will find its way to the bottom, to join all my previous cell phones, eventually. Then I'll know what to buy.

Too many toys, to little money!

My iPhone 6 meets my needs but is a water sponge. I really need something more water resistant and don’t want to move from IOS and climb the learning curve again.
