I'll volunteer Bacchus for a test boat!

Alas, always looking for the Holy Grail. You would think in today's world something would come along to end bottom woes.

So OK, it makes the boat slide easily. Will it inhibit growth? Or will any growth quickly sluff off once underway?

Re: Omniphobic coating

Interesting - but is it actually friction with the water that causes resistance to boat motion? I thought it was related to standing waves and fluid dynamics and all that good stuff.

At the very least it is friction causing turbulence of water along the hull surface...which is why sharkskin has been explored as a mean of "organizing" water flow into a less disturbed state. It's why racers wet sand their bottoms...smoother = less disturbance.

I don't know beyond that how disturbed water slows a boat down. Someone here will hopefully chime in.
