Props to Imtra

Im rebuilding a Lofrans Tigress windlass and needed to replace 4 tiny plastic bushings that insulate the stainless mounting bolts from the aluminum windlass housing. On the Imtra website these little guys are $7.95 each and with shipping was going to be something like $50. I called Imtra this morning and the customer support rep was very apologetic saying that the maunfacturer has just raised prices 40% and by the time they through with import duties etc. tiny things like this end up with rediculous prices. He then told me that he knew where some of these bushings were kicking around the warehouse and is dropping a set in the mail for free. I will definately deal with these guys again and wanted to pass on the good word.

Re: Props to Imtra

I just rebuilt my Tigress about 2 months ago, and when I got the price for those little plastic bushing, I put my entire parts order on hold. I got almost everything I needed at Ace Hardware and a local bearing/bushing supply for way less than Imtra wanted. Ace had the exact little plastic bushings for the feet for $1.79 each.

I did have a fine experience with Imtra service dept, and they sent me exactly what I needed and also gave me some technical advice.

I agree that they are providing great customer service, but the prices for parts are out of line.

That was going to be route I was headed which is what prompted the phone call. Curious what kind of grease did you use on the parts that get grease? And did you just use regular 90w gear lube?

As I have a yet-to-be-installed Tigres, I think I will bookmark this thread. It's like finding out that your Volvo diesel takes Ford Taurus parts, amirite?

Re: Props to Imtra

I had the New Bedford Imtra office fix am old Muir Cougar Windlass that had completely stopped working for me. They did everything quickly and it was very reasonably priced. I was very happy with the whole process. This was summer of 2010.
