Re: Racor Copy made by Katsu?

Maybe a BSP (British Standard Pipe) thread? My Mitsubishi (Vetus) has them. Both taps and dies are readily available in the US. Don't know about fittings.

Re: Racor Copy made by Katsu?

I put one of these cheap Racor copies on, rubbish. After 18 months the stress cracks in the bowl are so alarming I have taken it off, gone back to the CAV system, but will now buy a genuine Racor. I contacted the company that sold it to be told they no longer sell them! Don't fit one of these they are dangerous. By the way when I bought it it needed a bit of re-engineering to be of any use, should have ditched it then! Finally we really shouldn't be supporting that ghastly economy!

Re: Racor Copy made by Katsu?

Recently fitted a Racor 500FG copy made by Katsu, cost around $50.
Looks well made, good casting, no rough bits, good coating.
No leaks after fitting. Used Racor element to be on safe side.
Liked the red plastic ring which is placed in the bowel, sinks in diesel, floats in water, so a very easy indicator of water in the bowel.

Only downside is securing the filter housing. No direct access to either bolts or screws.
I was fitting to a vertical wood bulkhead and in the end used hex head screws, screwed in as far as possible, placed the filter housing over the screws, and then painfully tightened up using a very short 8mm spanner, which I could turn the screw about 10 degrees at a time.

Re: Racor Copy made by Katsu?

The thing about any filter, aside from the all-crucial element, is how well it seals. I personally wouldn't want to experiment with a filter assembly that's constantly letting air in. Peace of mind is worth something. Is this Chinese thing a carbon copy in all aspects, including filter interchangeability? The commercial operators will know as well as anyone.

And sometimes on ebay even cheaper. New filter element and O-rings, should be good as new.
