Reluctant to subscribe to Cruising Outpost

Last time I signed up for L&A for a two year subscription I got two issues and the mag went defunct.

How is CO doing financially? Any reason to subscribe?

I believe that the mag went belly up after Bob Bitchin sold it. He got screwed worse than you did.
Since he's running the new operation your subscription should be safe.

CO is great!
Too late for you now, but if a similar situation happens with a magazine (or most anything else), simply notify your credit card company & they will credit you back. In fact, with L&A our credit card company insisted on crediting back the whole 3 years - wouldn't even do our asked-for partial period.

Re: Reluctant to subscribe to Cruising Outpost

In the first few years I loved Lats and Atts. It was irreverent and not as stuffy as the other sailing rags. Just seemed more "authentic". I went to a couple of L&A parties up here and they were truly memorable! We met Bob several times (he wouldn't remember us) and he helped my wife out of the dink once.

Then it seemed the whole mag took itself way too seriously and then it just pandered to whatever companies would give free products to Bob. He would brag about how great they were and how special they were on his boat. The tone changed and I drifted on. I'll check out CO but I hope it isn't the same ol' stuff.

I do hope this one workes out for him. The few times we spoke he was very friendly. I totally expected to be brushed off but we spoke quite awhile durring different meetings.
But I really felt burned with the magazine and the extra money for the cruisers club that had no partisapation. I'm hesitant to get involved again.

I ended up buying the digital edition... $10 is pretty good for 4 issues.
