Re: SF is Unbelievably Lame!!!!

Be happy you are not on the Gulf Coast in Mexico. There is NOTHING here! I am getting a package per month and the shipping is killing me...and this is for needs, not the little cosmetic things that I'd like to do.
I feel for ya, good luck...sometimes (often) a break while waiting for the mailman and a beer work well...

OK, OK, now I'll take a Steady Hand approach:

This is meant in all fairness and in a helpful manner.

How long were you looking?

Where did you look?

Did you find anything online that you couldn't find here? That is, did you exhaust all your avenues for locating resources?

Did you talk to any local sailors during your searches?

Did you try, for example, wood shops instead of marine stores for those wood screws?

Are you aware that nautical charts can be provided on-demand, most are no longer stocked?

Did you try electrical shops for buss bars?

I have found that just about everything I need I can find here. And you're right, Blue Pelican, which happens to be right in my own marina, is a fine resource. I'm somewhat confused - you found it there, so why the beef?

In many cases, asking first helps.

Welcome to The Bay Area.
Ha ha....That really cracked me up this morning....Perfect!

Dell....just take a look around. Do you see many cruising boats? Maybe 1 out of 30 and 1/2 of those will never go cruising. Many Benehuntalina owners never pick up a screwdriver. The marine supply stores stock accordingly.
As you know before my boat left the US, I was docked at the ramp just below Svendsens. It was a 2 minute walk to their store. That's when old Sved was still alive and he knew what the average boater needed and was well stocked. Now the lawyer son owns it. He has good managers but I could see things were changing. For me, "Blue Pelican" was hit and miss. Usually overpriced but that's an arguable point I'm sure.
West marine is just a joke now. I probably visit one to pick up a Latitude 38 now and again.
All this grief you're going through will prepare you for Mexico where finding shielded 16/3 signal wire, will take you 5 days and 30 miles on a folding bike.
